Cheryl Strayed writes about the difference between deciding to do something and actually committing to it: “There was the first, flip decision to do it, followed by the second, more serious decision to actually do it.” Reflect on a time in your own life when you made a quick or casual decision that later required a deeper commitment. Describe what changed between the first decision and the moment you realized you truly had to follow through. What fears, challenges, or responsibilities became real once the decision was no longer just an idea?

One thing like that for me was definitely kicking, but you probably know the entire story about that by now because that's one of my favorite things to write about. But another casual decision that later required preparation was my job. I've known since I started driving that I wanted my first job to be a delivery job since I love to drive and it relaxes me (most of the time), so I decided after getting rejected from the Marcos Pizza and not hearing back from the Domino's or Pizza Hut or Mo's pizza (on Briarcliff), that I should look into gig apps. I checked the requirements for Door Dash. I meet all of them except the little one at the bottom that says I have to be 19. Crap. Why would I have to be 19 to work a dad gum delivery job?? Makes no sense. No matter. I look at UberEats' website next. I meet the requirements like legal US citizen... I'm eligible to work in the US... I have a car that is insured... I am 19 years old... wait... No I'm not 19 years old. Yet another dog gone app rejected me because I'm not 19 years old. Are you serious? Oh well. There's only one gig app left that is even possible. Grub Hub. I checked the requirements... and I only have to be 18! I immediately sign up for the job and I'm on the wait-list for the Atlanta area to be a GrubHub driver. Then after that, I have to make the decision to actually do it. I have to find out how to calculate if what I spend on gas is worth it for the profit that I'm making. I had to figure out how to deal with the smell of 1000 restaurants in my car. How to maintain my cars health so that it wouldn't cost all my money to repair it. I also had to take into account that I might delivery in an unsafe part of town. What would I do if I got robbed?

We started reading chapter 1 of Wild

I learned that books tend to have a boring start before they get to the good stuff, and that some authors will really say anything. I mean, I zoned out a little bit and then the book said the F word and that REALLY got my attention. I mean, it's not anything I don't hear every day in the school bathrooms, but I just didn't expect that from a classroom environment, it takes some getting used to.
