Prompt: After reading the first five letters of The Color Purple, reflect on your thoughts and emotions as you experienced Celie’s early voice and struggles.

 After reading the first 5 letters of The Color Purple, I realize it is a very strange book. The contents of it are very graphic and uncomfortable to read it was very weird having to hear Mr. Rease read the crazy content out loud and it made me cringe whenever he would say something absolutely abominable. If the book stays this inappropriate, we're going to be uncomfortable for awhile. It's going to be interesting seeing how the main character grows and develops, but I'm nervous for what we will have to read until then.


Today in class we read the first 5 letters of "The Color Purple."


I learned about the struggles of uneducated people in rural society and the danger of abuse.

 My cultural heritage shapes my expectations just like in "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid, but the tasks that I have to do are a little different. Instead of doing something like hanging up laundry, I have to take care of my dog and do the dishes, for example. I also have to take out the trash and do other various chores. Write about a dream that felt real.

 One dream that felt real was when I went to school with no pants on. I had no idea it was happening until everyone was looking at me and I remember feeling super scared. I woke up and I was like how on this planet earth did I straight up forget to put on pants and it was just really confusing. I remember waking up scared thinking it would somehow happen to me in real life even though I knew it would never.  Today in class we finished Fences and worked on our poster. The book was very interesting. Troy ended up dying and the resolution was that Cory went to his funeral.

 My first question about life is how far can any human physically kick a field goal? It's random, but I want to know how far I can push myself physically to get the maximum distance possible before I start to deteriorate due to age. My other big question is where am I going to work when I grow up. Today in class we read "I, Too" by Langston Hughes, and found the aspects of cultural identity. This helped me to learn about the struggles and triumphs of black americans before the civil rights act.
